Erin Barnes, a clinical associate professor of Rehabilitation Counseling, has been selected to serve as Faculty Fellow for Faculty Development with the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

In this fellowship role, Barnes will work with the associate provost for faculty to support the faculty success objectives of the UI 2022-2027 strategic plan.

This strategic plan focuses on aspects of the faculty lifecycle, including recruitment, retention, development, mentoring, and recognition.

As part of the selection process for this fellowship, Barnes demonstrated an ability to develop and support interdisciplinary project teams as well as previous involvement in and development of programmatic content.

Working with the associate provost for faculty, Barnes will implement her proposed project, NTT-INCH, a Microsoft Teams-based institutional navigation and connection hub that offers both community and centralized resources curated for specialized (non-tenure track) faculty. The project aims to strengthen faculty engagement, promote professional growth, and advance strategic priorities, such as retention and faculty excellence.

“I feel honored to be selected as a Faculty Fellow for Faculty Development,” says Barnes. “Since 2019, I’ve worked on strategic planning and related faculty development initiatives, and this fellowship gives me the opportunity to bring those experiences together into a project that directly supports the university’s strategic plan. I’m grateful for the confidence university leadership placed in my proposal to advance our strategic priorities.”

Through her fellowship project, Barnes aims to address gaps that can lead to isolation among non-tenure track faculty while implementing strategies that foster greater connection.
